In a landmark decision, Google has agreed to delete "billions" of data records collected from users' incognito browsing sessions as part of a settlement in a class-action lawsuit. This move marks a significant step in addressing concerns over user privacy and data protection.

The lawsuit, which was filed in 2020, accused Google of misleading users about the privacy of their browsing activities when using the Chrome browser's incognito mode. Despite the expectation of privacy, it was alleged that Google continued to collect data through other means, such as advertising technology embedded in websites.

This settlement does not include any monetary compensation from Google; however, it opens the door for individuals to pursue damages independently through U.S. state courts. About 50 people have already initiated such actions.
